This winter, head to Leadville’s Huck Finn Ice Rink, an outdoor skating rink that’s ideal for athletes wanting to switch up their routine, families seeking a fun activity, and kids looking to get involved in a new sport.
Located at the intersection of Fifth Street and Leiter Street, Huck Finn Ice Rink is open December through March, weather permitting. At 30,000 square feet, it’s one of the largest manmade rinks in Colorado. With affordable admission prices and skate rentals, it’s also a great place to give ice skating a try, perfect your jump, or practice your hockey shot.
Leadville’s recreation department offers youth and adult hockey leagues, curling programs, and figure skating lessons. There’s also co-ed and women’s drop-in hockey. Thanks to the tireless efforts of Leadville’s residents, the Huck Finn Ice Rink now has a new 2,300-square-foot warming hut. This enclosed space has plenty of indoor seating and an outdoor fire pit area that’s great for staying warm while watching your friends or kids skate.
When Leadville’s temperature dips below freezing, it’s time to celebrate because Huck Finn’s ice has frozen over and skating fun has begun.
