So many of Leadville’s visitors come to play in the great outdoors, and with thousands upon thousands of acres of wilderness, there are plenty of campgrounds to accommodate them. While there’s always free camping in BLM land, the following campgrounds offer established sites with fire pits and picnic tables. Some are even reservable, which takes the stress out of getting to a site in time.
There’s more to Twin Lakes than its water. The area’s campgrounds provide an easy starting point for all outdoor adventures. The National Forest Service Campgrounds are Dexter, Lakeview, Parry Peak, Twin Peaks, and White Star. While some can be reserved, most are first come, first served.

Turquoise Lake’s campgrounds are a treasure. Named for the nearby gold and silver mines and the mineral tycoons who owned them, they offer easy access to all of the lake’s amenities. Some campgrounds look out over the water while others are tucked in forests and meadows.

Camp Hale Memorial Campground sits at an elevation of 9,200 feet, offering guests a wonderful setting for recreation and relaxation. Camp Hale is historic because the 10th Mountain Division, a unit of 15,000 men, trained here in mountaineering and skiing techniques during WWII.
Camp Hale Memorial Campground has 15 standard sites able to accommodate tents, trailers and RVs. The campground is equipped with picnic tables, campfire rings, and vault toilets. Drinking water and electrical hook- ups are not available at this site. Visitors must provide their own water.
